It's bulb planting season!! Dutch bulbs such as daffodils, tulips, crocus, and hyacinths are planted in the fall for spring blooms. Plant everything except for tulips all through the month of October and into November. Wait to plant tulips till mid to late November for best results.

In October and early to mid-November, dig and store your tender perennials that come from bulbous material like cannas, dahlias, and caladiums in a cool, dry location. Sometimes some of these will overwinter, but it is best to be on the safe side with your favorites.
Fall and early winter is the perfect time to begin or add to a compost pile. You can start by gathering and shredding leaves. Once the shredded or mowed over, you can can add the leaves to compost. Use as mulch or till into garden plots.
